Setelah mengikuti kegiatan pembelajaran tentang  bilangan kuantum, siswa dapat:

2.      Apersepsi
Anak-anak, ada yang masih ingat minggu lalu kita telah mempelajari perkembangan teori atom dimulai dari Dalton, Thomson, Rutherford, J.J Thomson, dan yang terakhir Neils Bohr. Dari kesemua teori atom yang sudah kita pelajari apakah kalian tau teori atom apa yang sampai sekarang kita gunakan atau malah berbeda?
Teori mekanika kuantum lahir dari teori atom Bohr, bahwa setiap atom memiliki tingkatan energi dan lahir dari kelemahan postulat bohr yang tidak dapat menjelaskan atom-atom selain hidrogen ternyata mempunyai perilaku yang sama padahal dialam semesta ini banyak sekali unsur.
Teori ini pula lahir berdasarkan hasil pemikiran banyak ilmuan, dan yang paling menonjol adalah Scrodinger dan Maxwell. Berdasarkan hasil kesimpulan hasil pemikiran para ilmuan,  secara fisika elektron keberadaan nya tidak dapat diketahui secara pasti atau langsung . Kita tidak dapat menentukan momentum dan posisi elektron secara pasti berada dimana. Anak-anak walaupun demikian kita dapat megklasifikasikan tingkatan energi pada bilangan kuantum.
Berbeda dengan istilah orbit yang dikemukakan oleh Bohr. Untuk menentukan lokasi orbital dalam atom diperlukan 4 keterangan pada teori mekanika kuantum. Apa saja kah itu?
3.      Motivasi:
Memberikan animasi/ gambar tentang susunan kulit, sub kulit, orbital dan arah medan magnet.  Apakah n, l, m, dan s itu ?
4.      Tujuan pembelajaran:
Guru menyampaikan dengan mempelajari materi yang akan dibahas maka dapat memudahkan siswa untuk menentukan bentuk dan orientasi orbital pada materi selanjutnya .

1.    Mengamati
Siswa mengamati animasi tentang susunan kulit, sub kulit, dan orbital .
2.      Menanya
·         Menanyakan kepada siswa: “Bagaimana cara  menyusun tingkatan energi pada teori mekanika kuantum seperti pada animasi yang ada ?”
·         Menarik keingintahuan siswa untuk bertanya bagaimana aturan pengklasifikasian tingkat energi menurut mekanika kuantum : “Bagaimana cara mengklasifikasikan tingkatan energi pada bilangan kuantum? Apakah maksud dari simbol  n, l, m dan s itu  ?
3.     Mengumpulkan informasi
·      Penyampaian materi untuk menjawab pertanyaan berkaitan tentang pengkasifikasian 4 bilangan kuantum.
4.      Mengasosiasi (memberi soal)
·      Siswa diberikan beberapa soal contoh tentang nilai l yang dimungkinkan untuk elektron dengan n=3.
·      Siswa menjawab soal dengan berdiskusi dengan teman semeja.
5.      Mengomunikasikan
Siswa menyampaikan hasil penyelesaian soal-soal mengenai bilangan kuantum utama (n), bilangan kuantum azimut (l), bilangan kuantum magnetik (m) dan spin (s).

Penutup

1.      Simpulan
a.       Siswa dengan bimbingan guru bersama-sama menyimpulkan pengertian bilangan kuantum mekanika kuantum. Pengklasifikasikan bilangan kuantum meliputi bilangan kuantum utama (n), bilangan kuantum azimut (l), bilangan kuantum magnetik (m) dan spin (s).
b.      Guru meminta umpan balik dari siswa mengenai kegiatan pembelajaran yang telah berlangsung. “Bagaimana pembelajaran kali ini? Menyenangkan bukan?”
2.      Tindak lanjut
a.       Guru memberikan pekerjaan rumah berupa latihan soal mengenai bilangan kuantum meliputi bilangan kuantum utama (n), bilangan kuantum azimut (l), bilangan kuantum magnetik (m) dan spin (s).
b.      Siswa diminta untuk mempelajari materi selanjutnya

Guru mengakhiri kegiatan pembelajaran dengan mengucapkan salam penutup.

MATERI AJAR .
Teori mekanika kuantum adalah teori yang merangkum seluruh teori dari dikemukakan adanya atom hingga sampai sekarang belum terbantahkan. Teori yang penyempurnaan dari postulat Bohr yang menyatakan bahwa elektron memiliki keududukan dan tingkatan energi. Akan tetapi teori atom Bohr tidak dapat menejelaskan mengapa atom-atom selain hidrogen ternyata memiliki perilaku yang sama pula.
            Secara fisika, elektron keberadaannya tidak dapat ditentukan secara langsung . Elektron  juga tidak dapat ditentukan momentum dan posisinya secara bersamaan . Elektron secara tidak pasti ada dimana, akan tetapi elektron berada pada orbital yaitu daerah disekitar inti dengan peluang terbesar menemukan elektron.
            Kedudukan suatu orbital ditentukan oleh empat bilangan kuantum bilangan kuantum utama (n), bilangan azimut (l), bilangan magnetic (m) dan bilangan spin (s)
a.      Bilangan kuantum utama / Quantum number disimbolkan  n.
Bilangan kuantum utama menentuakan tingkat energi orbital atau kulit atom. Berdasarkan postulat Bohr yang menyatakan bahwa elektron memiliki tingkat energi tertentu dan perputaran elektron selalu teratur. Menurut teori Bohr, kulit atom dinyatakan dengan lambang K, L, M, N dst sesuai abjad untuk nilai n= 1, 2, 3, 4 dst.
Semakin besar atom, maka semakin banyak kulit yang melapisinya untuk setiap atom memiliki simbol yang berbeda-beda anatara satu dengan yang lainnya karena memiliki karakteristik masing-masing.  Contoh :

b.      Bilangan azimut/ Quantum anguler disimbolkan l.
Bilangan azimut menyatakan subkulit. Bilangan ini adalah bilangan bulat yang dimulai dari 0 sampai dengan (n-1) . Untuk n = 1 maka l = 0 , untuk n = 2 maka l = 1 dst . Bilangan kuantum menyatakan bentuk orbital.
Orbital dengan nilai l = 0 disebut orbital s atau singkatan dari sharp.
Orbital dengan nilai l = 1 disebut orbital p atau singkatan dari principal
Orbital dengan nilai l = 2 disebut orbital d atau singkatan dari diffuse.
Orbital dengan nilai l = 3 disebut orbital f atau singkatan dari fundamental.
Kelompok orbital dengan bilangan kuantum utama (n) dan bilangan kuantum azimut (l) yang sama membentuk satu sub kulit . Banyaknya subkulit dari suatu kulit tergantung banyaknya bilangan azimut kulit tersebut. Contoh :
a.      Kulit K (n = 1) ada 1 nilai l = 0 artinya kulit K terdiri dari 1 subkulit.
b.      Kulit L (n = 2) ada 2  nilai l = 1 artinya kulit L terdiri dari 2 subkulit.

Bilangan yang menyatakan orientasi orbital ruang . Bilangan ini berkaitan dengan arus listrik dengan medan magnet .

d.      Bilangan spin / Quantum spin disimbolkan s.
Bilangan kuantum spin menunjukan tingkat energi elektron ketika berputar, serah jarum jam nilanya -1/2 dan berlawanan arah +1/2 . Bilangan ini menunjukan medan magnet tertentu dan artinya setiap atom tidak akan mngkin memiliki spin yang sama dalam satu orbital. Contoh : s = +1/2
